Gabriel, who hails from Enugu State, became furious when he discovered that his wife (identified as Charity) had dumped him for another man.
The incident happened at the Governor’s Road in Ikotun area of Lagos.
The victim, who sustained various degrees of injuries is battling between life and death at the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital (LASUTH), Ikeja, while the estranged husband is currently cooling his heels at the police cell in Ikotun.
Insiders disclose that Gabriel indicated marrying Charity at her family’s country home in Enugu State, but brought her to Lagos without concluding the necessary marriage rites. They lived together as a ‘couple’ and now have a kid.
It was gathered that trouble erupted between the once united couple last year when the husband claimed that his wife was seeing another man. Charity denied the allegation several times, but her husband refused to believe her.
When she became tired of the incessant accusation, she told her husband there was no need to remain in the relationship if it was difficult to trust her any further. She took their only kid to their village and returned to Lagos to live on her own.
When Gabriel discovered that she was back in Lagos, he traced her to where she lived, begging her for reconciliation... But the ex-wife remained adamant.
When all his efforts to win her back became futile, Gabriel allegedly got an acid and poured it on her face and other parts of her body.
Sources at the Police station confirm the incident, and said the accused will soon be charged to court.
