The branch chairman of the Road Transport Employers Association of Nigeria, RTEAN, in one of the parks in Ondo town, Ondo State, Ebenezer Adedeji, has been murdered over an argument on the payment of N100 daily ticket.
Adedeji, it was learnt was over the weekend hacked down by a man, believed to be an Okada rider in the community whose identity was not known at press time. The deceased was said to have accosted the suspect at Shora Street in the town and demanded for N100 being the money for the daily ticket of the association.
An argument was said to have ensued between the suspect and the deceased. Vanguard gathered that the suspect left the scene, abandoned his motorcycle on the spot and left for his house only to return with a cutlass.
Unknown to the deceased, he was said to have gone for a meeting of the association in the area. But the suspect after returning learnt that the deceased had left the scene following which he traced him to the meeting.
On getting to the meeting he discovered that the deceased had not arrived there, he therefore reportedly laid ambush for him at the entrance of the venue of the meeting where on arrival he allegedly attacked his victim with the cutlass.
The suspect who fled after killing the deceased was pursued and later arrested by the traders in the area and subsequently handed over to the police. The Divisional Police Officer, DPO, in charge of the station, Chief David Ehighale, a Deputy Superintendent of Police, confirmed the incident.
Ehighale said that the suspect had been transferred to the homicide section at the Ondo State Police Command headquarters in Akure, for further investigation. The DPO added that the remains of the deceased has been deposited at the Ondo State Specialist Hospital at Ondo town.
