They must have thought life in camp is Heaven; more so as they are in the Federal Capital Territory, (FCT). Wake Up!!!
Members of the 2012 Batch C at NYSC FCT camp in Kubwa, are apparently very disappointed with the poor state of the camp facilities. They have therefore called on the FCT authority to assist in providing facilities, especially toilets to assist the thousands of corps members posted to the territory. Some of the corps members have resorted to using the near-by bush as toilets.
The FCT NYSC Coordinator, Mr Frank Ekpunobi, was said to have made several appeals for the rehabilitation of the camps. Ekpunobi said that the camp required urgent attention to reduce the stress corps members cope with, which includes road network, and poor toilets and bathrooms.
On their own part, most of the corps members interviewed said that it was unfortunate that a camp at the nation’s capital was left to rot away. According to Faith Odinaka, a corps member, the toilets at the camp apart from being dirty, are unkempt, the facilities are also over stretched as the number of the corps members are always on the increase.
“I was expecting to see a state of the art camp, since it is in the FCT but I was shocked to find that apart from the toilets, the road network, the kitchen and dining hall are in terrible shape,’’ she said. She called on the FCT authority to come to the aid of the camp so that the corps members would enjoy their stay at the camp.
Fadila Zakari, a corps member, also accused the FCT Administration of neglecting the camp, adding that the NYSC FCT officials were doing their best to make life bearable. “My concern is health situation, if care is not taken at the end of the day, some corps members will end up at the hospital because you cannot rule out epidemic outbreak. ’’ NAN also reports that there are complaints in some orientation camps across the country which also describes their deplorable conditions.
