Manchester United have been dealt an injury blow with the news that Robin van Persie picked up a knock while on international duty this week.

The 29-year-old was subbed at half-time during Hollands 4-1 World Cup qualifying win over Hungary on Tuesday night with a thigh injury.

The former Arsenal hitman has a poor injury record after seeing his first six years at the Emirates plagued by a series of injuries, so this latest set back will be a worry for Sir Alex Ferguson.

Dutch coach Louis van Gaal confirmed he took the striker off as he didn’t want to take any risks:

‘We took off Robin for precautionary measures. It doesn’t seem to be too serious, but you never know. We didn’t want to take any risks.’

Wayne Rooney is currently on the sidelines for at least another two weeks so Ferguson will be desperate for his summer signing to stay fit.

van Persie has made a superb start to life at Old Trafford, scoring four goals in just two starts following his summer move from Arsenal.

Many Gooners have taken to Twitter to poke fun at United fans and RVP for what they see as an inevitable injury, after having to put up with years of seeing the striker on the sidelines during his time in north London.

One Arsenal fan wrote ”Van Persie is injured. If that can’t make you smile this morning I don’t know what will.“, while another Tweeted ”LOOOL Van Persie’s injured yet again. Hopefully he’s out for months“.

Hopefully these are just the opinions of the minority as it’s never nice to hear football fans wanting a player, no matter what club they play for, to get injured.
